Marriott restarts campaign in Mozambique

1st December 2021

After a prolonged pause following the outbreak of the COVID pandemic in March 2020, Marriott has recently recommenced operations in Mozambique for SASOL. The campaign is focused on the existing fields in the Temane and Pande area and will entail a combination of workover and new drilled wells spanning out over the next number of years. The continued production from these fields are central to the gas market in both Mozambique and South Africa, thereby enhancing energy security and reducing carbon emissions compared to traditional coal-fired electricity.

To service this contract Marriott mobilised Rig 46 to Mozambique in late 2019. Marriott has a dedicated, experienced and highly capable rig management team in the field which are critical to making this project a success. Over 70% of the staff employed by Marriott in the field are Mozambican with the commitment to ensure skills transfer and the development of both employees and the supply chain within Mozambique, a key feature of this project for the company. In addition to the rig services Marriott also provides a fully managed camp facility in the field which caters for and houses up to 170 people, a critical component of successfully managing operations in a remote location.
